Facial Procedures for a Rugged, Masculine Look
Facial cosmetic surgery is slowly gaining popularity among men who are uncomfortable with noticeable signs of aging and want to look younger and more attractive. Men are increasingly aware of the benefits of an expertly performed facelift and eyelid lift, both of which can help to compete successfully in the most competitive job market ever.
Dr. Mark H. Schwartz understands that his male patients want to retain their masculinity and look rugged. Men have a different aesthetic ideal than women, and Dr. Schwartz respects that. He is careful and meticulous in his work, and produces consistently attractive results. Dr. Schwartz is the go-to board-certified plastic surgeon for men in New York City.
Facelift/Necklift
A facelift (which usually incorporates a necklift) is the most comprehensive way to minimize signs of aging and restore a youthful, refreshed appearance to the face. Nowadays, more men seek facelift for a variety of reasons: to compete in an increasingly young job market, to boost confidence after a divorce or simply to look and feel great.
Facelifts tightens droopy skin on the face, neck and jowl area and improves the facial contours and can smooth deep wrinkles and creases. During the operation, Dr. Schwartz removes fat and excess skin on the face and delicately remodels the muscles and tissue below the skin’s surface. He also tightens the platysma muscles, which run down each side of the neck, and if necessary, uses liposuction to create a slimmer neck contour.
There are some challenges in male facelift/necklift cases, including the placement of the surgical incisions in patients that are balding or have short haircuts. It is more difficult for men to hide potential scarring, so incisions are often made in the natural crease between the ear and sideburn, inside the ear, around the earlobe, under the chin or back into the hairline. Beard and sideburn growth and skin thickness are other obstacles. Dr. Schwartz understands the nuances of male facelift/necklift and has extensive experience working around these unique challenges.
Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is another commonly requested procedure among men whose primary concerns are eyelid puffiness, wrinkles and bags. A well-performed eyelid lift refreshes the eye area and makes the face look more awake and alert. For his male patients, Dr. Schwartz is knows that his male patients desire a conservative improvement allowing them to maintain their masculine appearance.
The upper and lower eyelids can be treated together or separately, depending on the needs of the individual patient. During upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Schwartz makes the incision along the natural crease of the eyelid. During lower eyelid surgery, he can make the incision either below the lashline or inside the eyelid. Through the incisions, Dr. Schwartz removes excess skin and repositions fat deposits to eliminate the puffiness.
Rhinoplasty for Men
Rhinoplasty (commonly known as a “nose job”), refers to a procedure that reshapes the nose. Common problems corrected by a rhinoplasty include removing humps, reshaping a bulbous tip, changing the angle between the nose and mouth, and changing the shape of the nostrils. A rhinoplasty is not the same procedure in a man as it is in a woman. For instance, men tend to have thicker skin and cartilages, and require different techniques to achieve the results they desire.
Most men seeking rhinoplasty do not wish to dramatically change the appearance of their noses. While women commonly request a more delicate or feminine version of their noses, men frequently desire a strong nasal dorsum (profile) which is characteristic of a male nose. In addition, many men present to Dr. Schwartz’s office in New York City with sports-related injury or trauma and want their nose to return to a pre-trauma state without major changes.
The procedure is performed under IV sedation or twilight and generally takes two to four hours depending on the complexity of the operation. There are two main approaches to rhinoplasty, a “closed” rhinoplasty (incisions placed inside the nose), and an “open” rhinoplasty, an inconspicuous incision placed on the columella (the skin that separates the two nostrils). Most men return to work in one week, although men’s noses tend to stay swollen slightly longer than women’s.
