A Non-Ablative Approach to Firmer Skin
Light energy is used in a variety of cosmetic applications, including skin tightening. Individuals that are self-conscious of lax, saggy skin on the face or body can opt for non-invasive, non-surgical treatment with Sciton SkinTyte technology, available at the New York City practice of Dr. Mark H. Schwartz. SkinTyte uses pulsed light technology to heat the deep layers of the skin, stimulating the body’s natural regeneration of collagen. This improves the skin’s elasticity and gives it a more youthful-looking tone.
Treatment Areas
SkinTyte can be used on any area of the body where an individual desires firmer and healthier looking skin. Dr. Schwartz most often uses SkinTyte to treat loose skin on the cheeks, chin, jowls, neck, chest and upper arms. SkinTyte is also effective on abdominal skin that has stretched with pregnancy or weight fluctuation. It may be used after a liposuction procedure to resolve related skin sagginess.
SkinTyte is safe for all skin types and colors. It is not recommended for individuals with active or recent blisters, infections or lesions. These skin issues must resolve prior to SkinTyte treatment.
Treatment Details
Laser skin tightening is conveniently performed in Dr. Schwartz’s Manhattan office. A topical numbing cream may be used on patients with extremely sensitive skin. The patient wears eye shields or goggles throughout treatment to protect the eyes from the light beam.
To begin, Dr. Schwartz places the SkinTyte handpiece over the skin. The handpiece delivers light energy in a sequence of rapid, gentle pulses. It precisely targets the treatment area without affecting the surrounding tissue. The light energy selectively heats the deep layers of tissue, which promotes the denaturation and contraction of the collagen matrix. The heat also triggers the body’s natural healing process to create a new foundation of collagen. The fresh collagen causes the skin to look firm and youthful.
Although SkinTyte heats the deep layers of the skin, it cools and protects the epidermis at the treatment site before, during and after treatment, to minimize discomfort and prevent heat injury to the adjacent skin structures.
Total treatment time depends on the size of the area being treated and the degree of correction needed. The face and neck can usually be treated within 30 minutes. Dr. Schwartz may recommend a series of two to five treatment sessions, spaced several weeks apart, for optimal results.
Recovering from Laser Skin Tightening
Laser skin tightening does not require a long recovery period. Patients are usually able to resume work and other activities almost immediately after their appointment. The treated area may look temporarily red. Makeup and sunscreen can be used as normal; a specific skincare regimen is not necessary.
Laser skin tightening results become visible as the body rebuilds its collagen matrix. It often takes up to four months for full results to appear.
