The ClearScan laser by Sciton uses infrared laser energy to precisely treat visible vessels, broken capillaries, spider veins, vascular lesions, and discoloration of your skin by using laser energy. The BBL uses broad band or intense pulsed light to treat spider veins as well. Your treatment will be tailored to match your skin condition and desired result.
How does the Laser work to treat spider veins, rosacea and vascular lesions?
The energy travels through the skin surface and is absorbed by the blue or red pigment of the blood vessel, which causes them to heat up. The heat generated causes the walls of the vein to break down and close. A natural process of re-absorption follows and the veins are no longer visible where they were destroyed.
What conditions can be treated and in what areas?
Conditions that can be treated with this laser include facial veins, leg veins, rosacea, and generalized redness. All skin areas can be treated. You may resume your daily activities immediately.
Will it be uncomfortable?
Most patients are treated with a topical anesthetic prior to the treatment which eliminates the minimal discomfort. Most patients report a brief feeling of heat sensation as the laser pulses are absorbed by the unwanted vessels, but there is no long-lasting procedure discomfort.
What will happen during the procedure?
Your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses. The laser beam will be delivered to the area of your skin being treated. You may briefly feel a warm or hot sensation as the laser pulses are preferentially absorbed in the unwanted vessels, heating and destroying them. Your procedure may take a few minutes to half an hour depending on the size of the area to be treated.
What should I expect after the treatment?
You may experience some redness after the procedure which may last for several days. Any vessels denatured by the laser will be reabsorbed by your body over a period of time in a natural cleansing process. You may resume your daily activities immediately. Dr. Schwartz will answer questions about temporary changes on your skin color and how they may be camouflaged at his practice in New York City.
